Primetime Politicos: Eva Longoria to Produce show based on Julián and Joaquin Castro

It doesn’t get more Tejano than this. Eva Longoria is reportedly set to produce a new drama loosely based on the lives of twin politicians Julián and Joaquin Castro.
Called Pair of Aces, the drama will hone in on the world of Texas politics, where truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. The show will have Longoria’s company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment and Conde Nast Entertainment behind it, and it’s reported to have top-tier talent like Meredith Lavender and Marcie Ulin of ABC’s Nashville (which is amazing!), as creators and writers.
According to Deadline.com, the show will focus on the lives of Chris and Alex Reyes – brothers, best friends and rivals – who are up and comers in Texas’ political arena. But behind the scenes, it’s their mother Maria who is really the political mastermind – think Tiger mom with a Tejano twist.
Texas is fertile ground for political scandal. Between allegations of vote buying, Rick Perry’s failed presidential bid and arrest, notorious battles over education policy, border theatrics, Wendy Davis’ legendary filibuster, there is more than enough drama for six seasons and movie.
It goes without saying that television is painfully lacking in depictions of Ivy League-educated Latinos in positions of power – it’s lacking in depictions of Latinos, period. However, Longoria seems to be one of Latinos’ most fervent champions in TV land.
No premiere info has been released, but if and when it airs, the eyes of Texas just might be watching.
