Totally Awesome: Throwback Fiesta
Disclosure: Modern Tejana was provided tickets to this event.
Much like VH1, I love the 70s and 80s. Give me frosty eye shadow. Give me disco. Give me fishnets. The music, the style, the vibe – it’s just so kitschy and fun. So, I’m more than a little excited for Throwback Fiesta, a new Fiesta event celebrating those fabulous decades, and maybe a little from the 60s and 90s as well.
Taking place on April 19 at Maverick Park, Throwback Fiesta will feature all of those things we love about retro – music, dance, fashion and more. Plus, it’s not Fiesta if there isn’t food, so be prepared to munch.
Bands will take the stage from 3:30 p.m. on through the afternoon and evening to play some of your favorite oldies (80s music are “oldies” now, right?). Metal Shop, a bigger than life hair band, takes the stage at 6:30. Get a sneak peak at their glam rock sound.
Fashion victims who arrive in their best bell bottoms, disco dresses, or shredded acid wash denim can compete in the costume contest for the chance to win a prize provided by Top Golf San Antonio. For inspiration, re-watch some of your old favorite 80s movies. Find your old jellies. Dig out your slap bracelets. Heat up the crimper. Or just try to be as cool as 1980s Stallone. –>
Come dressed up or create your own look at the festival. Crafty lady and local blogger Morena Hockley of MorenasCorner.com will be on hand to teach everyone how to chop up your t-shirt like they’re extras on Flashdance or a member of the Go-Go’s.
Like some of the best Fiesta events, it’s a family friendly affair. Kids can come and join in the fun and dance around to the music. What’s more the event benefits the San Antonio Parks Foundation, which works to enhance the city and county’s parks.
See you there!
