Your Texas Music: Davíd Garza

Your Texas Music pick is Davíd Garza

There are precious few Texas music lovers who don’t know Davíd Garza. The musician has been around seemingly forever and just might be a mainstay of your iTunes library.

However, if you are like me and hadn’t heard from Davíd in a hot minute, it’s always exciting to hear something new from the artist. NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series recently featured the native Tejano on their stellar music show.

Your Texas Music pick is Davíd Garza

Of the many things I love about this artist is that he is so quintessentially Texas: a singer-songwriter-rocker (not to mention painter) who sings primarily in English but slips into Spanish when no English word will do. His song style isn’t trendy. He’s more of a modern classic – each song could be almost from any contemporary era, but sound fresh no matter the year you listen. Go back to some of is hits from the 90s –  they could have been written yesterday. A crystal-clear voice and intelligent, thoughtful lyrics make him that much more appealing to music lovers like me.

If you don’t listen to anything else this month (if you’ve never listened to him before, this music sampler is a perfect introduction), have Davíd Garza’s Tiny Desk Concert on loop. That’s what I have been doing. If you are not careful, you will fall down the YouTube rabbithole and spend hours searching for his videos. But if you do, those will be hours well spent.

Here’s the concert. Enjoy!
