Pride, Positivity & Power: 9 Instagram Accounts for Woke Latinxs

Pride, Positivity & Power: 9 Instagram Accounts for Woke Latinxs

My Instagram feed is getting more empowering thanks to woke Latinxs (men, women and everyone on the gender spectrum) and other people of color who use the platform to share their messages of empowerment, positivity, awareness and pride.

I’ve noticed that among the photos of beautifully plated food, happy families, stylish women, beauty bloggers, artists and their creations and naturescapes, I started finding more and more poetry, empowering images, and photos of people working for change. When one account would strike me, I’d go hunting for more.

After I became a mother, I became more determined to make the world a more accepting place, more insistent about my beliefs and more appreciative of those brave voices that proclaim their truths. While this list could stretch on into the hundreds, these are the nine Instagram accounts that promote issues close to my heart.

@LatinaRebels

Find endless inspiration and truths from the Latina Rebels. They don’t shy away from the hard topics, but also add humor and beauty to their complex Insta.

@ReclaimYourPower

Largely focusing on indigenous women, this account is encouraging to everyone. Those of us who embrace our indigenous roots and appreciate the Latino/indigenous intersection will be especially moved.

@NalgonaPositivityPride

Body positivity and whole self-acceptance are the themes of this incredible account. You can also shop some of their creations at their Etsy store.

@MujeresMarcharan

This account dedicated to a pro-women march in San Antonio does an amazing job of motivating followers to embrace their power right now. It’s our moment.

@ Maria_La_Hinojosa

The first step to being woke is being aware. Maria Hinojosa, a leading journalist, takes us through her adventures as a reporter and professor and sheds light on her quest to document the Latino experience.

@RadicalMonarchs

Designed for girls of color, not just Latinas, this organization starts teaching the principles of social justice, equality, their own power and activism early.

@MujeresdeMaiz

The Instagram account for an empowering community space in Los Angeles also works to empower those of us not in the area through their connection to the earth, each other, their work and the world.

@YesikaStarr

While this is the personal account for this incredible poet, her followers are inspired by her words, her transparency about her experience and how she embraces herself.

@Necia_Media

This collective of artists and creators describe themselves as “radical, muxerista, multiethnic, and diasporic.” Their work is moving and inspiring; it will touch you.
