Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation, $5.94
A fan favorite, Maybelline’s Fit Me! Foundation has been reformulated and now includes two finishes: Dewy + Smooth, and Matte + Poreless. The consistency of the formula is thin and even, making application and blending a breeze. The shade selection is wide, so it shouldn’t be too tough to find one that matches your skin tone. For the price, the value is out of this world.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, $7.94
This product is fabulous. A combination of concealer, highlighter and dark circle treatment, Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser can seemingly do it all. The product comes up through a sponge applicator tip, which you use to dot under your eyes and blend it in thoroughly. When you are done, you have a nice bright under eye area.
Maybelline Master Prime Primer
Primers have a tough job: they must smooth skin texture, help hide fine lines and blur the appearance of big pores. They pretty much have to set the stage for foundation to do its job. This primer has a touch of pearlescent pink color, which gives the skin a pretty “awake and healthy” look. Maybelline’s Master Prime also comes in three formulations: Blur + Illuminate, Blur + Smooth, and Blur + Redness control.
Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix Makeup, $11.78
Think of the Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix Makeup stick is like a flaw eraser. Its creamy texture is super full coverage, effectively diminishing the look of redness or dark spots – even circles. If you use this, you can skip additional concealer. The color selection could be wider, but the eight shades available are pretty encompassing. Plus, it has SPF 20 for a little sun protection.
Milani Baked Blush $6.97
Milani is famous for its great blushers. It’s comparable to higher-end blushes in that the color is soft, buildable and provides a “glowy” look, as opposed to a harsh swipe of pink powder like other low-cost blushes. Many shades have tiny flecks of iridescent powder making the final look luminous and flushed. And, let’s not forget: the price point is unbeatable.
Milani Baked Bronzer Tantastic Face & Body Bronzer, $7.97
One of the most popular high-end luminizing bronzers on the market is Lorac’s TANtalizer Baked Bronzer. It’s gorgeous and glowy – and $33. Milani’s Baked Bronzer TANtastic is pretty close and a fraction of the price. Milani’s bronzer is very shimmery, so a little goes a long way. It does give tan skin a lovely sheen and offers a little color to light skin tones. The compact has a lot of product in it, so the bronzer should last a long, long time.
Honorable Mention:
L’Oréal Infallible Makeup Extender Spray
Makeup extender sprays are nothing new among prestige brands, but a quality value brand version is novel. Think of it as “hairspray” for your makeup. It keeps it in place and prevents it from wearing away. It dries quickly, leaving no trace of shine or a sweaty, “wet” look. It doesn’t control oil though, so oily skin ladies may still need to dab on powder throughout the day. One caveat: since this is a drugstore brand, the atomizer doesn’t offer as fine a mist as it should. When you spray your face, you may feel big droplets of the product as well as a mist. I would also recommend fewer than the six to eight sprays as directed by the bottle.
